New user, getting no sound through MIDI interface

I downloaded the eval version, plugged my Tascam US-122L in, followed directions to get inputs set up correctly. Tried recording voice and guitar plugged into MIDI interface, but I get no sound, no recording. Reaper recognizes the Tascam, and says it is connected as an input, but there is no sound wave. I have read the user guide, checked every setting, tried every variation I can think of, read lots of posts here and watched video tutorials. Nothing works. At a total loss here about what the problem is. I have a windows 7 64-bit ASUS laptop. [I made sure my Tascam is not the problem by testing it with garageband on a mac that i used to use and it works fine there.] thanks for any tips you have

1. Do you see Reaper recording.... I E see notes being laid down? If so, you MUST select a playback Instrument in order to hear anything. Use the FX. Button and then go to your instrument menu.

do you have monitoring enabled?

He said there's no sound wave. He also said he's recording guitar and vocal, so i'm not seeing where MIDI has anything to do with it. Are you referring to the interface itself as a MIDI interface? You need to plug your guitar into the switchable line input. Switch it to high impedance for use with guitar. Plug your mic into Mic In L. Insert 2 tracks in Reaper. Name one Guitar and the other Vocal. Arm the guitar track in Reaper, open the drop-down menu for the inputs. Select mono. Use channel 2 or Right, however it shows up. Use mono, channel 1 or Left for your vocal. Make sure both tracks are armed, and you have the input monitoring button on. If you're using speakers to monitor, your mic might feed back, so watch out for that. Now you should be able to press record and away you go. Try all that and report back. You may have to go into your audio settings and enable your inputs. I don't have that interface, but a picture of it on Google shows me pretty much what we need to get you going.

Can you post please a screenshot of your REAPER Audio Device preferences settings? That might be a good place to start looking ...

Thanks everyone. My ignorance of "MIDI" was the problem, as you guessed. The TASCAM says MIDI interface, so i assumed that's what i was plugging into but i understand what that means now. Anyway, I did what edkilp advised, and started to get some sound coming through, and I was able to record. So thanks very much for your assistance. I will try to go from here. It didn't sound great, so I need to try a few other adjustments/experiments to see how to improve that. But at least I know that it works and the rest is up to me.
