black smoke

Well i hope you have a 1.9 td for starters! Black smoke out of a diesel is indicative of incorrect fuel/air mixture usually. This can be caused by many factors though, some of which are: Air leaking in to fuel system, blockage in fuel system, blocked fuel filter, blocked/worn/leaking fuel pump and/or injectors, sometimes a worn turbo can blow black/grey smoke. Dunno how many miles yours got on it, but age can be a factor in engine wear obviously. Did you change the fuel filter when you did air and oil? Would suggest this as a first port of call. Does the car start up ok first thing, or does it just churn over for a while before firing? Was the cleaner you put in a diesel additive for injectors, this will need some time to work if injs are very dirty.

hi thanks yes did change fule filter and put injector cleaner in it ther is a leak on the pump its were the imobliser unit sits can not take it off to titen it as far as im awere the engin is getting to mutch fule and dose not burn it all the garages hear dont know mutch about the v40 .dunnoon .could it be the fule management sys thanks for your hellp

My experience of diesels, is that when you start to billow smoke, you know you need to give it some beans, so what i do is floor it in first or second gear up to the governor hold it there for a short time until the smog clear (usually 5-10seconds is enough) and the car is smog free. I used to have to do it on my Civic CTDI. Also try something called Greased Lightening fuel treatment. Can be bought for around a tenner from netparts.co.uk - I swear by the stuff. Try this and let me know how you get on before embarking on expensive repairs, as it may be nothing more serious than you drive like a taxi driver (in 5th gear everywhere!). Hope this helps, Jono

hi thanks yes done that put it direct in fule filter and the tank have noticed a leek on the pump at high revs but can not titen it up its behind the imobliser unit on the pump car starts no problem runs ok short on power lots of soot wen going up hills i paid a lot of mony for it now gutterd test runs out at the end of the munth .
