complete newb, starting with an audio interface

Ok so I just started working with any kind of recording software and I'm going through the Beginners Guide to Home Recording. LOVE the book. I was having crazy latency issues so I went out and got a Focusrite 2i4 interface to go along with my BLue Yeti Pro mic. If I plug my mic through USB it's loud and crisp and sounds great, I just can't monitor it because of the latency, but when I run it through the interface I can barely hear it at all, and I've played around with the gain on the mic and on the box but all it does is make it scratchy sounding. Anyone have a crash course in how to make it sound right? Thanks!

Ok one thing I did notice is if I render the project, or play through my normal speakers and not through my interface things that I recorded with my mic sound fine. Whats weird though is the track that I recorded with my keyboard and just imported the MP3 sounds FINE no matter what... its just my mic, when played back through the interface.... does any what I said make sense? lol

It's a USB microphone? If so, that registers it as a soundcard. I looked at the 1st page of Google results-USB mic with xlr output? Weird, what you want is xlr output going into your Focusrite without the mic being powered by USB. You can try asio4all to setup mic inputs rerouted to Focusrite outputs, would recommend selling the mic and getting an xlr mic of choice.

Are you turning on phantom power?

I don't know the focusrite interface but generally on interfaces these days, where you plug in the xlr and\or 1/4 inch cable [inputs] there is also a button or switch to chose if you are using a mic or instrument on that input.. IF it's a mic, you MUST have it set to mic and also turn on the phantom power [IF the mic takes phantom power!] Outputs in reaper pref's should be 1 and 2 or however many your card offers... Inputs should be however many it offers as well [first and last] then on the track for recording the mic, you want only mono input and likely only input 1 [assuming that is what you are plugged into]

First of all thank you for your willingness to help me out. I took some pictures that maybe will help? The only time it seems to work ok is if I set the output range from 1 to 1... not sure if I'm supposed to do that or not, or what that means. If I set it from 1 to anything else I can barely hear anything.

if the Blue is an USB mic, then you don't need to run it through the additional sound card. That might be the issue. I think you can only run one sound card at a time.
