As far as the MP3/download story goes, there are other crazy dicussable items in the musicindustry. For example: are you aware that you can't use demo plugins in your songs? If you keep your songs on your pc, no problem, but imagine you score a big hit with one of your songs. In these days hits are analysed, based on the fact on wich program/plugins they were made. Still don't get it? Your song can be samplefree, original composing, played by professional musicians,... nevermind if you used a program or plugin that you don't have rights/licence on! I heard stories about a softwaremanufacturor that claimed all profits on a hitsingle, due to the fact it was made on that program and plugins, and the guy didn't had licenses on it. So if you use demo's or even illegal versions, think twice before you use them in an important production! In fact it's the same as with the P2P problems; everyone says it's very normal to download MP3's, illigal software, burn CD's with non licensed music and we get used to it throughout the years. And now everyone in the musicindustry want their real profits in unimaginable ways... We're all sheep being driven in the smallest corner ever.

I don't think so. The sounds generated by most plugs could have been generated in other ways. From either many other plugs or from analog fakery. Besides, who's to say I didn't use my friends' computer for those effects? If I went into a studio and used effects, I wouldn't have ownership of those either, but I'd still get to keep the songs. and who's going to be able to prove that you've never been to one of the thousands of studios that have licensed copies of their plugs? If you can find a source that names this "softwaremanufacturor" or the "hitsingle" we might be more inclined to believe you. But as it stands, this is a pretty shaky claim. I'm not advocating doing this, software rights should be treated the way you want your music rights to be treated. As for demo versions, they're fully yours. It's a demo, that's the whole point. The only restrictions are those imposed by the authors (say time limits or that annoying white noise on amplitube). If I couldn't use a demo in a song, how on earth would I know if I wanted it? -Olaf
