Strange lights and switch question

Please forgive me if I'm asking a stupid or previously asked question but I can't seem to find an answer to these niggles anywhere, having checked on here, the haynes manual and the owners handbook. I recently purchased a 1989 740GL estate with the 2.0l engine. I love it and it suits my purposes brilliantly. Generally it's running great but there's this light. It comes on very briefly, only occasionally and seems to coincide with going over a bump. What is it? There's also this switch in the glove compartment which does'nt look stock and turns on a light on the dashboard(also seen in the pic). My guess is that it's some sort of dummy car alarm thing but I've really no idea. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Graham

My gl had a light in exactly the same place lol, i never did figure out what it was for, the glovebox switch and light i assume is a looks like an alarm light without an alarm if you get what i mean, i confuse myself most of the time, les.

The small light above the glovebox may be to do with an actual alarm (or a dummy alarm). Is there any sign of an alarm system in the engine bay? The larger light on the dash is akin to an aftermarket addition to indicate when you are towing something. It should light up when you are towing and indicating a turn, for example. I have just assumed that you have a towbar fitted.

I concurr, first one is for towbar electrics, flashes at same time as indicators/hazards when towing, my old mans 240 sometimes came on even when not towing. Mine is in the same place (fitted at dealers) 2nd my guess is alarm/dummy alarm/fuel cut off switch my golf 16v had a similar fuel cut off switch (works well) Ali
