Maximum Volume Partition Size Mac Firewire ??

Hey Guys.. sorry can't find info on this... anyone know what the maximum volume size is for Protools these days ?? ... A few years back ( a few protools Versions ) Protools Mix 6.4.1 wouldn't let me record to a 500 gig LaCie FW drive so I had to partition it in half, and all was fine..Been doing that ever since..... Do we still have to do that?... what are the performance issues ? I'm trying out the new G-Tech Raid drives & wondering how to partition them if i still need to.... Anyone have definite experience with messing with partition sizes & data throughput ? I also am using a new Nitro 8 port FW800 hub.. We'll see how that works.... As far as I know there are no maximum volume sizes in Pro Tools. There was a problem with some Granite Digital Drives and Tiger not being able to access over 120GB, but Granite fixed that. Why not just format it and give it a shot

Well I did and it does work, I can record over 30 Tracks of audio and it plays back fine, but I was wondering if anyone has done any intensive tests to find optimum performance, or discovered any Limits or curbed performance as a result of drive partition size.. I'm just too busy right now myself to geek out and spend a day testing... Cheers Tom....

TommyT - Are you using that G drive in RAID mode? I tried using a RAID 0 drive for PT and it doesn't recognize the drive as recordable. It would be so cool if DIGI would support RAID. My PC has a 500GB RAID (hardware) and the sounds (audio files) just fly off of it.

Well from what I understand the G-Raid drives are Raided behind the Firewire controller... they are not raided at the computer level (ie. making a raid out of several separate firewire drives) they are raided at the device level (one firewire drive with several mechanisms striped as a raid inside it) .... so my Mac (Protools) only sees one firewire drive... but it's much faster than any other single firewire drive....
