revs drop and stalling when turning

hi guys, car stalled yesterday for the first time in ages. it happened when i was pulling out of my drive slowly. i turned the wheel with low revs and it died on me. starts up fine, runs and idles good otherwise. but ever since ive owned it, the revs have dropped a bit when turning at low speeds or revs. it used to drop and stall when i had a dump valve after i revved it up, the revs would drop all the way down and cut out. but i removed it and its been fine. but this steering problem has been slowly getting worse. cant feel any changes in the steeriing wheel, steering fluid hasnt dropped and is at the right level. cant see any leaks at all. could this be a faulty steering pump or rack? maybe something else on that belt thats putting strain on the engine? alternator has been checked and its fine, battery is new and good. any suggestions? i cleaned the idle control valve and have had 2 different maf sensors fitted with no change. thanks in advance

Spooky, the same thing has happened to me recently.

I'm new to this forum and Volvos but on Mondeos there is a pressure sensor on the power steering pipe that senses when the power steering is under load and raises the tickover accordingly, does the Volvo have similar and could this be the problem.

nope, checked and i cant see any sensors at all, even on vadis. the car stalled last night, but i wasnt turning this time. i was parked in my drive and revved it a bit, most of the time the revs returned to normal, but twice it dropped low and it stalled once. revs drop all the time when steering, but now im wondering if its also a fuel delivery problem. any ideas guys? any help appreciated, im completely lost now. not only possible steering problem, but now im looking at having to check every bit of wiring in the carand maybe change the fpr and pump. cant afford to keep replacing items in the hope it will fix it

Even though you cleaned the IAC, I think that's the one to blame here. Yes, ps pump could also gone south. If you doubt in fuel delivery check the pressure.

thanks for the info, i might check the fuel pressure and see what its doing while this is happening. i forgot to mention this is my second engine now and both have acted the same. making me think it may well be something that was not replaced in the swap. second engine came with intake manifold, tb, iac, pvc system, fuel rail and injectors. everthing else is original. might even be a problem with the ecu map, currently stock awaiting mte tune. not the physical mods as these problems were there when car was stock. steering issue cant be ecu related. might get a second pas pump from the scrappy to try. would be nice to get this sorted before marco vists
