a hardware solution to midi latency - would this work?

hi guys, im slowly getting back into MIDI sequencing and like most people, im running into latency problems. all drivers are up to date, and i know you can counteract this problem by delaying the output to an extent, but would this hardware option that i've drawn up below work? basically to ensure the sound module is getting a merged MIDI feed from both the sequencer AND the controller keyboard. thanks

This will not work simply because You will have a timing difference Your signal is split into the Daw and out to the split box So you will end up hearing a delayed signal . You will hear the original NOW DAWED midi and then a few MS later you will hear the Daw midi signal This works only for playing back tracks from the Daw. You need a low latency Firewire Interface with midi Or use a Presonus USB interface, as you know Presonus locks their USB controller to 1ms unlike others at 6 MS and beyond. For now I use an Edirol Fa101 10/10 on Windows 8 and running smoothly at 1.5 ms in/ 1.5 ms out I will not give up that interface, if it dies I will pick up another one used!! That interface is kickass for VSTi's and runnign guitar Sims since the latency is so low I can Van halen tap guitar on that crap all day even at 3 feet away from sounce source and hard to tell the latency delay. If I ever get a USB interface it will be presonus and nothing else.

im going to be playing pre-recorded midi data from the DAW into sound module - say on midi channel 1. whilst that is happening, i hope to be able to play the controller keyboard and record this information into sequencer as well as playing the sound 'live' on the sound module on a different channel, say MIDI channel 2 (if it is a multi timbral device). whilst playing/recording this data, the MIDI output from reaper on this track will be set to OFF, so as not to create latency. will work?

Well, like said, it should work. If you already have Thru/merge boxes, it should be easy enough to test this. I had something similar for years with several merge and thru boxes, but nowadays run my hardware thru Motu MIDI Timepiece AV. It can run independently (of computer) and handles MIDI routing any which way I'd like.
