DIGI002R startup problems

I am having a problem with my Digi002R. Eveytime I start it up (from desktop icon), it goes through the process until it gets to where it says "setting up midi", then it stays there a very long time, and finally tells me it can't communicate with the digi002r. If I attempt to reconnect the unit it continues to give me the error message, never seeing it. If I press quit, my computer becomes frozen and the only way out is to hold the on button until it shuts down (will not soft reboot). Now here's the strange part...after rebooting in the exact same manner the digi002r works fine! This happens every single time. Of course the easy answer is to never turn it off, but does anyone have any thoughts on the matter? I never had this problem with my MBox and PT LE 6. Dell Dimension E510 Pent.D 2.8ghz 2GBram 80gbSATA+80gb1394Drives and WinXP w/Digi002R and PTLE 7.0

Did you buy the 002r new or used? Either way, check the serial number and make sure it isn't one of the older ones that is susceptible to the "Power harness" problem. (if the serial number ends in A thru F it is). When you ran the program for the first time, did it update the firmware? Are you using one of the QUalified Firewire Interfaces? (listed on the )

Hey buddy. I to had a problem similar to this. I found that it was a certain firewire port on my pci firewire card... Try using another port, you never know. For a work around, I found that turning on my 002r before turning on my computer, would always give me a nice clean boot with pro tools. I know this doesn't exactly resolve the issue, but at least you won't have to constently reboot. Mike

Funny, mine is one of the older units, and Ive replaced the power harness, however I am now intermittently experiencing this same problem. Mine seems to be due to the fact im syncing to my Rosetta 200. If I turn the Rosetta off, and reboot, then open ProTools, it hangs either at the MIDI message or the loading DAE message, then says invalid clock, reverting to internal (which of course would happen since Ive turned my rosetta off) and then successfully loads. Then if I turn my rosetta back on, and then change the clock all is good. If I dont turn the rosetta off, then it hangs at MIDI or DAE, then after 5 minutes or so Windows changes the status to not responding. Frustrating!!

I am using a FW card thats not on the compatible list, so that may be it... and the units s/n ends in a D, so perhaps this is a problem (How much is harness/is it easy to changeout)? I bought the 002R on ebay NIB in 2004, but just set it up recently with new computer. Previously was happy with MBox setup with PTLE 6.4. Tried starting with 002R on first, but has no effect. Will try changing FW card if last resort, but for now just leaving everything running and being slightly annoyed. Thanks Dudes!

So long as you are the registered owner of your 002R then the power harness is free. Digi tech support send it out to you and you can fit it yourself. Its not that difficult
