couple of osx tweaks

Anyone with less than a 1ghz or dual G4 might want to try out these two tweaks, they let me run a few sessions from os9 that choked my Ti800/mbox in osx. Renicing is a Unix feature that gives an application (Pro Tools) more cpu power - value is from -20 (the most) to 20 (not much) default is 0. Disabling Quartz extreme also seemed to lessen the load. The usual -your milage my vary, proceed at your own risk etc. In a Terminal window # Renice Pro Tools to give it priority ps -auxw

Cheers eboy I'm no stranger to Unix or Terminal - I administrate my remote Apache sever using ssh in the terminal window - but I can't seem to get this to work. I'm off to read the man pages on renice, but any ideas would be helpful: Here's what I typed: sudo renice -20 489 And I get... renice: 489: getpriority: No such process Any pointers? Stu :p In Addition ... everytime I enter ps -auxw

You are actually renicing the "grep" process (which has exited by the time you do the sudo command.) ps auxw

are there any varying numbers of increase? i'll try this out tonight. great tip ken; btw i had to go to netscape to post this. the new software is not mozilla friendly :(

eh? I do 90% of my DUCing through Mozilla Firebird, which is quite nearly the best browser around. Full blown mozilla sucks, but firebird is very very nice.
